Lamkhaga Pass

Lamkhaga Pass trek is considered to be the most beautiful and difficult trek which connects Chitkul and Gangotri. The trail is about 90 kms passing through the remotest valleys of Kinnaur (lower and upper Baspa) and Garhwal. The 5300 meters high altitude pass is a classic Himalayan crossover. The name Lamkhaga is described as Lam for long and Khaga for Pass. The trek leading up to the Harshil in Gangotri Valley is one of the most popular treks starting from Chitkul which is the last habitat village on Indo – Tibet border. The trek goes through beautiful trail along with the Baspa river, meadows, bolder strewn zone, Snowfields, Glaciers, Craggy Moraines and that is what it makes this 90 kms trek the adventures.

ITINERARY

Day – 01: Shimla to Chitkul (Travel by road)

Shimla will be the meeting point for all fellow trekkers, trek leaders and support team. From Shimla we will drive up to Chitkul (3450 mts) which is a drive of 7 to 9 hours. The night we stay here in the Home stay and trek leader will brief you about the upcoming plan and schedule of the each day and team gets ready for the same. Chitkul is the last habitat village of Baspa valley on Indo – Tibet border.

Day – 02: Chitkul Acclimatization Day

We stay in Chitkul on the second day as it will be the day when we acclimatize hiking and walking around the village where one can find himself surrounded by the mountains. The day is yours make plans for the upcoming challenges in the further route, cook for yourself and do storytelling with the team or fellow trekkers. The team will brief you further post dinner.

Day – 03: – Chitkul to Ranikanda

Our exploration to the trail starts from today onwards. Flag off! From Chitkul after an early breakfast we start trekking down towards Ranikanda which is about 5 hours trek. We walk along with the Baspa River and it is a gradual walk up to Ranikanda. We stop for lunch in between and reach the place before getting dark. Troops of horses and sheep’s can be found in a large number here. It is the first campsite overlooking the Baspa River on the right side and snowy mountains in front enjoy the stunning views from your camp Grab soups or tea to keep you hydrated. Dinner and overnight stay in tents in Rani Kanda.

Day – 04:- Ranikanda to Dumti

We will continue our trek in early morning through a gradual trail again towards Dumti, trek through cascading waterfalls and flowery meadows to reach Dumti. You will get a stunning view after reaching Dumti. Huge grassland along with Baspa River Camp here and you will have good time to relax before the sun goes down and prepare yourself for challenges that lie ahead from the next day. A night stay in the camp under the blue sky will help you in preparing for the upcoming.

Day – 05:-Dumti to Gundar

Healthy breakfast will energies you for the long day trek to Gundar. We follow the Baspa River all along and cross several small streams along the way to reach Gundar. Hence this is going to be a bit long walk of the trek where you may have to cross many water streams so pace yourself accordingly. You shall not feel tiring as the valley will keep you engage with its stunning views during trek. We will reach Gundar by late afternoon and overnight stay at camp.

Day – 06: – Gundar to Lamkhaga Base camp 01

Get ready for the adventures route; this could be a day with challenges depending upon the snow conditions. An early start is recommended today as there would be steep climb and technical gears may be required. As you all have been trek up so far and acclimatized yourselves very well so you are well prepared to climb up to Base camp. Keep munching and drink ample of water to keep yourself hydrated as you will need enough energy.

Day 07:- Lamkhaga base camp 01 to Advance base camp

We now are on the toughest path of the pass, Base camp 01 to Base camp 02 is a short but thrilling trek you now could see the glimpse of the mighty Lamkhaga which will keep motivating and not let your energy drain so easily. We are in the snowfield
and have to trek and camp on the snow. We start early form Base camp as you never know when the weather gets unfavorable. Reaching early will give us the time to relax and save the energy for the summit day (which in the next day). Dinner and an early start around 0400 hrs to the Pass. And will start early morning as it is going to be the longest trail of around 17 Kms of the route. Reach Mudh get your stomach filled and again be ready for the long drive to Recongpeo or Rampur.

Day – 08:- Advance base camp to Lamkhaga pass Crossover to Upper Kyarkoti

The excitement runs through your veins on this day .This is the day when we cross the connecting Pass and enter in Harshil valley in Gangotri, Uttarakhand. The climb is steep and will require technical gears. Joy and excitement of reaching and crossing the Pass will reward you with the immense pleasure and experience. You will now have lot to share with world. We will pitch the camp at Upper Kyarkoti after crossing the pass.

Day – 09:- Upper Kyarkoti to Kyarkoti

We descend down on the glacier towards Kyarkoti. The grassland will make you feel much comfortable after being and coming down from the snowfield. The valley is bloomed with various flowers and pink rhododendron forest of Kyarkoti which enhance the beauty and the fragrance all around will make you relaxed. We pitch our tents here and camp for the night.

Day – 10:- Kyarkoti to Harshil

The final leg of the trek is through very beautiful and through thick forests, numerous waterfalls, and unnamed streams. We finally reach Harshil and rest for the night in the village home stay. Say goodbye to the High Passes by reminiscing the entire journey that how you started and what all memories are you taking back from these mountains. The next morning we depart for Uttarkashi via road.
